DT Special — DT Variation
By Steve Gibson, Sarasota, Florida 1990s, submitted by Mike Cline.
Description
The DT Special was developed and popularized by angler and guide Steve Gibson of Sarasota, Florida in the early 1990s. Steve was a master angler for snook along the beaches of the Central Gulf Coast during the summer months. Snook patrolled the beaches close to shore searching out small baitfish. The DT Special was developed to sight fish snook within a few yards of the edge of the beach. The design allowed the fly to sink slowly in front of patrolling fish to entice a strike.
