The Pink Thing
By Graham White, Darwin, AU 1980s, submitted by Mike Cline.
Description
The Pink Thing was developed by angler Graham White of Darwin, AU in the 1980s as an imitation of a popular plastic jig at the time--a Vibratail. The Pink Thing is a hybrid fly between the Lefty Kreh deceiver style and the Dan Blanton Whistler style. It got its name when a fellow angler friend of White's during a trip to the Vernon Islands off the coast of Darwin was having a tough day while Graham was having a good one on the plentiful Barramundi. His friend asked if he could use one of those "pink things" and the name stuck. Success of the Pink Thing quickly spread, and it became known as the most successful Barra fly in Australia.
Tying Process
The Pink Thing style has been adapted with a myriad of color combinations, dumbbell eyes, 3D eyes and Fish Masks.
