The Rainbow Yummy was originally designed in 2019 while I was living in Olympia. It started as a go-to pattern for targeting bass, but it didn’t take long before it proved itself on coastal cutthroat in our local rivers and even out in Puget Sound where it’s been incredibly effective. The colorway was built to represent a rainbow trout, giving it a natural yet bold profile that consistently gets attention. This articulated jig fly has since become a true staple in my freshwater arsenal for both trout and bass. One of the things that makes this pattern so effective is its versatility. You can strip it back aggressively or dead drift it through a run, and either way fish just can’t seem to leave it alone. Lakes, rivers, streams, it doesn’t matter. This fly has produced for me across the board. Like all my patterns, the Rainbow Yummy can be tied in countless colors and sizes to match your specific fishery. Variations like the Shad Yummy and Brown Trout Yummy have also become strong producers. Today, this pattern is commercially produced by Fulling Mill and is the most popular commercially tied fly I have in production!
