Crease Gummy Minnow
By Joe Blado, Blane Chocklett (1990s), submitted by Mike Cline.
Description
The Crease Gummy is a sub-surface hybrid adapting the profile of Joe Blado’s Crease Fly popper with Blane Chocklett’s Gummy Minnow material. The convoluted body causes the fly to wobble erratically and the addition of a small rattle along the hook shank makes it a noisy fly in the water. For me it has proven very effective for speckled trout, Spanish mackerel and snook on the inshore Florida Gulf coast.
Tying Process
The Crease Fly profile is cut with a River Roads Creation Crease Fly cutter. The body material is Hareline Chocklett’s Sili Skin or equivalent. Once the Crease Fly shape is cut, it should be marked as desired with alcohol markers and the flat adhesive eyes added before attaching it to the hook. Once attached to the hook, the material can be coated with UV resin. Coloration and tailing materials can be adapted to the target environment.
