Glass Shrimp (Morten Hansen)
By Morten Hansen, Coastfly, submitted by Mike Cline.
Description
This is a tedious fly to tie, and my rendition is nowhere near that of the original. Getting the legs aligned is the most difficult. I've probably only ties a couple of dozen over the years, but they have proved themselves in one basic Speckled Trout scenario. Popping for specks over grass (suspending a live shrimp under a large popping cork) is a common inshore angling technique over inshore flats along the Gulf Coast. On a whim several years back, I tried suspending one of these glass shrimp ( ~ 3') under a Gurgler with an internal rattle. The results were pretty good. At least 50% of the trout were caught on the shrimp instead of the Gurgler.
