Paratron
By GAT.
Description
For some reason, rainbow trout is not listed but that was the original target species. This is a simple parachute pattern yet one that works quite well for me during the March Brown hatches.
Tying Process
The Antron wing was originally made from the core material of pearl mylar tinsel. Long ago, they used coarse Antron for the core which could be cut to form wings to replace calves tail fibers on dry fly patterns. The body is made from Antron fibers I cut from pieces of carpet a fishing buddy gave me. He was a member of our flyfishing club and owned a floor covering store. He figured out that he could make synthetic dubbing from the carpet fibers and created a stonefly nymph to represent golden stoneflies on The Metolius. I used his idea but tied dry flies instead of wet flies with the fibers. As the fly is basically synthetic, it floats for a long time and that's an advantage during a MB hatch. You can change the body color to any color you'd like but unless you have access to "rug dubbing", you'll need to use coarse Antron instead.
