Clarkman's Faux Musky Slayer part Deux — slider, glider, jerk
By clarkman.
Description
Somewhat similar to my previous tiger musky patterns. This one will glide a little bit easier that the other one because it has a little bit more weight to it.
Tying Process
re: tying with bucktail. less is more. That's a really good rule of thumb. Also, closer to the head, I use the back of bucktail because it's more hollow and it's shorter, so it flairs very easily. This provides a nice base to hold the slightly more cylindrical shape or the head and 'neck/thorax' area. The shank goes in front of the hook (I like the Kona 3/0 Carnivore hooks because of a big eye to accommodate thick shanks). I usually also add a bit of foam on top at the back end of the shank with a counter balance 2/3 of the way up the shank (I go with small brass eyes tied on the underside of the shank). All of this allows for the fly to keel properly and right itself after it kicks up and/or to the side.
