Spruce Fly (Streamer) — Godfrey Badger Hackle
By Bert and Milo Godfrey of Seaside, Oregon, in 1918, submitted by Mike Cline.
Description
Originally named for its long wing hackle and Badger neck, to target summer and fall runs of cutthroat trout on the Oregon Coast blog.plantids.com. Anglers adapted the pattern into a streamer by extending its body and tail, making it effective for sea-run cutthroat, rainbow trout, and steelhead. The Light and Dark Spruce remains one of the all-time classics in the traditional streamer category
Tying Process
Rooster or Hen hackle may be used for the wing. Light Spruce uses Badger while the Dark Spruce uses Furnace.
