Blue Jay

Blue Jay

By Stacy Chick, submitted by skyriver.

Description

I found some blue (Stellar) jay feathers and thought...why not? Black & blue is a great combo for steel, but usually it's in the form of an intruder or hobo spey. I like traditional flies, for mostly aesthetic reasons, and didn't have any black & blue patterns.

Tying Process

Like most traditional steelhead flies- Wrap on your thread Tie in, wrap and finish the tag Tie in and finish the tail Tie in the ribbing Tie in and wrap the chenille Wrap and finish the ribbing Tie in the throat this is different than finishing with a hackle throat, which often times comes as the last step. Tie in the calf tail wing Tie in the Krystal flash Finish the head and then apply your favorite cement...or not. 😁
